The book in your hands was never intended to be a book. One day a thin pamphlet entitled ‘Gayatri Mantra’ was among a bundle of letters and papers that was left on my kitchen table. I looked at the little book and saw that the pages were filled with short articles that I had written for the website and for other publications as well. The articles were nicely laid out and the book was really attractive. I was impressed by the care that was taken to make it so appealing. It struck me that this was a new project that I was to finish, invented by a disciple. I began to go through the pages one by one and I considered what I needed to do to improve it, or what I would have to add to it to make it a bit more flowing. Also I thought I wanted to give as much information as I could. After all, the book had a good beginning and I thought that it should be as complete as possible in the end. So I added a little here and there and took some parts from already existing articles.

I wrote a few new paragraphs and added a page or so. As all the pieces were assembled, the pamphlet got thicker and finally the book is complete.

So now you can understand why this book was never intended to be a book, but now it is.

It is bits and pieces of a major part of my life; it is an unintended tribute to a bright light in my heart, the Gayatri Mantra.

It is difficult to remember a time prior to the Gayatri Mantra. It seems as though I have always been filled to the brim with it and spilling it over into all those who I meet along the way.

Partout, des êtres chantent le Gayatri Mantra dans leur coeur, et ce chant ressemble à une brise de purification, qui souffle sur notre terre. Vingt-quatre heures par jour, ce mantra émane d'un grand courant sous-jacent d'altruisme.

De Gayatri Mantra wordt overal gezongen vanuit de harten van mensen en is als een zuiverende bries die over onze aarde waait. Vier en twintig uur per dag komt deze mantra omhoog uit een sterke altruïstische onderstroom.

Waar gaat die mantra over en waarom klinkt die zo door en door bekend voor wie haar voor het eerst hoort?

De Gayatri Mantra weerklinkt bij wezens van alle leeftijden en van alle landen. Het woord 'wezens' wordt hier gebruikt in plaats van 'mensen', omdat alles meeklinkt op het geluid, de trilling en de betekenis van de Gayatri Mantra, wanneer die hoge, lage en verre plaatsen daarmee vervult.

De boodschap van de Gayatri Mantra is bedoeld voor iedereen en raakt allen.

Het was nooit de bedoeling geweest dat het boek dat je nu in je handen houdt een echt boek zou zijn. Tussen een pakje brieven en papieren dat op een dag zomaar op mijn keukentafel lag, zat een dun boekje getiteld 'Gayatri Mantra'. Ik bekeek het boekje en zag dat de pagina's bedrukt waren
met korte artikelen die ik geschreven had voor de website en ook voor andere doeleinden. De artikelen waren keurig opgemaakt en het boekje was echt attractief. Ik was onder de indruk van de zorg die eraan besteed was om het zo aantrekkelijk te maken.

Het was duidelijk dat dit een door een discipel opgezet project was, dat ik moest afmaken. Eén voor één begon ik de bladzijden door te nemen en overwoog wat ik moest doen om het te verbeteren; of wat ik er aan toe moest voegen om de tekst wat beter te laten lopen. Zo bedacht ik ook dat ik zoveel informatie wilde geven als ik maar kon. Per slot van rekening was het boek goed begonnen en ik dacht dat het zo compleet mogelijk zou moeten zijn als het klaar was. Dus heb ik er zo hier en daar wat aan toegevoegd en ook stukken uit al bestaande artikelen opgenomen.

Ik heb een paar nieuwe paragrafen geschreven en er wat bladzijden aan toegevoegd. Toen alle stukken bij elkaar waren was het dunne boekje flink gegroeid en was het boek uiteindelijk compleet. Zo kun je dus begrijpen hoe dit boek, dat eigenlijk nooit een boek was, het toch geworden is! Het
zijn losse stukjes en beetjes van een belangrijk deel van mijn leven; het is een onbedoeld eerbetoon aan een helder licht in mijn hart - de Gayatri Mantra. Ik kan me nauwelijks een tijd herinneren zonder de Gayatri Mantra. Het lijkt alsof ik er altijd tot de rand toe mee gevuld ben geweest, terwijl het overvloeit naar iedereen die ik op mijn weg tegenkom.
